The ski category shows photos of skiers in action. Within skiing there are different categories (I will explain more below per categorie). On this page you will see a selection of shots of them all.
You sometimes hear that snowboarders and skiers aren’t a match, but I don’t have this feeling myself. Sometimes as a snowboarder you make fun of the way skiers walk and the other way around skiers make fun of the fact that snowboarders always need te fasten there binding(s) after the lift. There are a bunch examples like this, but this isn’t the place to talk about this.
Freeride skiing is riding off-piste and in powder. It is about going fast, taking gnarly lines and hitting natural features to do tricks. You don’t have to be a pro to freeride, it’s about pushing your limits on natural slopes and getting to the bottom with your thighs burning, heart pumping and a huge smile on your face.
Freestyle skiing is all about the tricks, normally in man made situations such as in a snowboard park. So riding through the half pipe, jibbing on rails, buttering the piste, nailing the jumps, pulling off tricks, stomping the landing and riding away like you own the mountain.
Freestyle riding is more about skill and courage than speed. A freestyle skier might try the same trick 20 times in a day and go home annoyed that they have not nailed it. Or course they will be back again the next day and the next until they get it right. This dedication to perfection is what makes freestyle skiing so beautiful to watch.
